Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans fell 4-1 to the North Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs tonight at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs scored three first-period goals and added another in the third period to improve to 38-14-3-5. With the loss, Rochester drops to 33-26-2-0 on the season and into third place in the American Hockey League's North Division.
Ben Maxwell paced the hometown Bulldogs with a three-point (2+1) effort en route to earning first star honors while 2010 AHL All-Star goaltender made 18 saves to pick up his 22nd win of the season.
Newcomer Maxime Gratchev potted Rochester's lone goal of the night as Tyler Plante turned away 29 saves in the losing effort. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the opening frame with back-to-back tallies just 78 seconds apart. First-year defenseman and 2010 AHL All-Star P.K. Subban netted his 12th goal of the season on the power-play at the 8:00 mark and then Maxwell beat Plante just 1:18 later to make it a 2-0 game.
Hamilton went up 3-0 when Ryan Russell converted on a penalty shot opportunity after being taken down from behind on a shorthanded rush.
Gratchev put the Amerks on the board at 4:50 of the second stanza with his second goal in as many nights since joining Rochester last night. Jordan Henry and veteran forward Jeff Taffe each received assists on the play. The goal would stand as the sole tally for the Amerks who saw their two-game win streak come to an end.
Maxwell added his second of the night at 12:56 of the final frame to deny Rochester its bid for a late-game rally and ultimately secure the 4-1 for his team.
The Amerks return home on Sunday, February 28th to exchange pleasantries with the Binghamton Senators for the second time in two weeks. The 3:00 p.m. matinee can be heard live on SportRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be shown live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26. Rochester is 5-2-0-0 this season against the B-Sens, which includes a perfect 3-0-0-0 record on home ice. The Amerks, however, are 27-29-5 all-time against the Baby Sens.
The game falls on an Amerks Red Hot Sunday! Fans can take advantage of the Zweigle's Family Four Pack and receive four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $44.
