Albany River Rats News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Chris Terry assisted on each of Albany's first three goals, including Drayson Bowman's game-winner midway through the third period, as the River Rats downed the Manchester Monarchs 5-2 Saturday night at Verizon Wireless Arena.

Manchester forward Scott Parse was dealt a five minute cross-checking major and a game misconduct for leveling an unsuspecting Steven Goertzen midway through the third period of a tie game, and Albany scored two power play goals in 13 seconds during the ensuing man-advantage to take control of the contest.

Bowman's game-winner broke-up the 2-2 deadlock at 8:40 of the third period and Zach Boychuk tallied at 8:53 to give Albany a commanding two goal cushion. Nicolas Blanchard sealed Albany's second straight road win with an empty net goal from the red line in the final three seconds of action.

Albany led 2-0 on first period markers from Nick Dodge and Jacob Micflikier; Terry and Bryan Rodney collected assists on both first period goals. Dodge drew first blood with a pretty wrist shot to the far post at 13:16, and Micflikier doubled Albany's lead with a power play tally in the final 14 seconds of the frame, redirecting a centering feed from Rodney.

The Monarchs drew even with a second period tally from David Kolomatis and a third period strike from Geoff Walker at 4:48.

Peters stopped 36-of-38 shots faced in the game and earned the win as Albany improved to 32-23-3-3 this season. Monarchs goalie Jeff Zatkoff allowed four goals on 34 shots faced and took the loss, as Manchester fell to 33-22-2-5 this year. The Monarchs out-shot the River Rats 38-35 in the contest and went 1-for-6 on the man-advantage, while Albany scored three power play goals on six opportunities.

Albany continues its road trip on Sunday afternoon in Portland with a 4:00 p.m. faceoff against the Pirates. River Rats 2009-10 flexible ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
