Wiseman's Late Goal Leads Falcons To 2-1 Win
February 27, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Chad Wiseman scored with just 17-seconds remaining in regulation and goaltender Devan Dubnyk was once again solid making 35 saves in leading the Springfield Falcons to a 2-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night at the War Memorial in Syracuse, NY. The Falcons have now won two straight games as they return home from their five-game road trip.
The Falcons penalty killing units did a tremendous job on Saturday killing off all seven shorthanded situations, while Springfield also capitalized on their scoring chances to earn the two points.
"Your best penalty killer has to be your goaltender and Devan (Dubnyk) played very well tonight," said Falcons head coach Rob Daum. "Also, I thought we were hungry to loose pucks, and did everything you have to do to kill penalties. It was a good road win for us tonight feeding off last night's win as well."
Chris Minard, who along with linemate Charles Linglet helped set up Wiseman's game-winner, opened the scoring for the Falcons at 7:36 of the first period with a power play goal. In the second period, Syracuse tied the score at 1-1 when Tomas Kana scored his 13th goal of the year at 9:25 of the middle frame.
The Falcons will now return home for four straight home games starting on March 5 when they host the Binghamton Senators.
"It was a good weekend for us and you have to give the guys credit for battling hard," said Daum.
