Pirates Post Overtime Win

Hartford, CT - Tyler Ennis scored the game winner on an overtime power play to lift the Portland Pirates to a 2-1 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,733 at the XL Center.

Marc-Andre Gragnani scored the other goal and added an assist for the Pirates, who ended a two-game losing streak with the win. Portland improved to 34-18-5-3 on the season. Gragnani's goal extended his point scoring streak to five games (4-3-7).

Dale Weise netted the lone goal for the Wolf Pack, losers of two straight overtime decisions. Hartford is now 26-26-5-4 on the season. The two teams were scoreless through one. Gragnani opened the scoring with a power-play goal midway through the period but Byers answered 64 second later to send the two teams into the third tied at one. A scoreless third period set the stage for Ennis to decide it two minutes into the extra five minutes.

The Pirates out shot the Wolf Pack 25-20 in the game as Jhonas Enroth posted the win. The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were 1. Ennis, 2. Enroth and 3. Hartford goalie Chad Johnson.

The Pirates complete weekend action tomorrow (Sunday) when the Albany River Rats visit for a 4 p.m. start at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The first 2,500 fans into the game will receive a free Pirates t-shirt courtesy of Five County Credit Union. Plus, join us for the "Day of Hockey" to benefit the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, supported by Irving Oil and supported by the Cumberland County Civic Center. The day-long event will be presented by the Portland Pirates Foundation and Huskies Youth Hockey. The 2010 Day of Hockey will begin with Huskies Youth Hockey holding a mite round robin tournament in the morning from 7-10 AM. Following that the Southern Maine Law Enforcement All-Star hockey team will take on the Portland Fire Department Men's Hockey Team starting at 12:30 PM, concluding at 2:00 PM with the Pirates game against the River Rats to end the day at 4 PM. As part of the Day of Hockey celebration, the Pirates will be intermittently showing the Olympic Gold Medal Game between USA and Canada throughout the game on the video scoreboard.
