Manitoba Moose News Release

After dropping a 4-0 shutout decision to the Rampage last night, the Moose got revenge beating the San Antonio club 3-1 in the rematch Saturday night in front of 8,252 spectators at the AT&T Centre. Nolan Baumgartner, Matt Pettinger and Guillaume Desbiens all scored for Manitoba while goaltender Daren Machesney had a solid outing stopping 35 of 36 shots in the victory.

Nikita Kishirsky's hooking penalty at 2:25 put the Rampage on the first powerplay of the night. The home team were able to bring their shot count to five on the man-advantage, but could not beat starting goaltender Daren Machesney during the short two-minutes.

At 8:22 Kyle Turris scored his 16th goal of the season when he swept the puck around Machesney to put the Rampage in the first lead of the game.

Manitoba suffered three more penalties before the period was over, but their penalty kill unit ensured they escaped all three disadvantages unscathed.

The Moose continued their perfect penalty killing in the second period when they fought off a slashing call against Matt Pettinger and roughing penalty against Guillaume Desbiens. After 40 minutes of play the Rampage held onto their one-goal lead and led the shot clock 24-20.

Gavin Morgan's hooking penalty 4:51 into the third period gave the Moose an opportunity to tie the game. Veteran defenceman Nolan Baumgartner took advantage when he smacked a loose rebound behind goaltender Josh Tordjman to get back on even-ground.

Manitoba earned their first lead of the night when Matt Pettinger flew down the left side of the ice and beat Tordjman on the short side for a 2-1 tally.

In the final seconds of play the Rampage pulled Tordjman for an extra attacker, but Desbiens managed to steal the puck and slide in an empty netter to confirm a 3-1 victory for the Moose.
