Rockford struck for the first tally of the night just past the halfway point of the opening period. Forward Bracken Kearns tipped a shot from the blueline by defenseman Brian Connelly. The deflection beat Texas goalie Brent Krahn at 11:45 for the 1-0 Ice Hogs lead. The goal ended Krahn's scoreless streak at 162:56, dating back to Saturday, November 7th against Manitoba.
Texas would answer back with a pair of goals prior to the end of the period, both strikes coming from Warren Peters. The Stars tied the game 1-1 just 32 seconds after falling in a one-goal whole. Right wing Sergei Korostin centered the puck to the Ice Hogs slot, finding Peters for his sixth goal of the season. The goal extended Peters' goal-scoring streak to five straight games. Texas would claim a 2-1 lead prior to the end of the period on Peters' second goal of the evening. Rookie Colton Scevior passed the puck to the Rockford crease and Peters finished the play for his seventh goal of the year at 19:11.
Texas scored the only goal in the second period. The Stars tallied 3:00 into the middle period for the 3-1 lead. Center Travis Morin fired the puck from the high slot and left wing Luke Gazdic tipped the puck past Rockford goalie Joe Fallon for his first goal of the season.
