Hurricanes Recall Justin Peters From Albany

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Justin Peters from the Albany River Rats. Carolina has also assigned defenseman Tim Conboy to Albany and the River Rats have recalled goaltender Mike Morrison from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.

Peters' recall comes after goaltender Michael Leighton suffered a lower-body injury during the Hurricanes' Tuesday night contest in Montreal. Peters, 23, has posted a 6-5-2 record, a 2.43 goals-against average and a.913 save percentage in 13 games with Albany this season. The Blythe, Ont., native is in his fourth professional season and has yet to make his NHL playing debut, though he did serve as the Hurricanes' backup goaltender for four games in December 2008. Peters (6'1", 205 lbs.) has posted a 42-56-6 record and a 2.92 goals-against average in 114 career AHL regular-season games with Albany since turning professional in 2006-07. Carolina drafted Peters in the second round, 38th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Conboy, 27, has recorded 22 penalty minutes in 11 games with Carolina this season. The Farmington, MN native has recorded 12 points (6-6-12) and 119 penalty minutes in 58 career NHL games, all with the Hurricanes, while posting 55 points (16-39-55) in 305 career AHL games split between Albany and the Cleveland Barons. Conboy (6'2", 210 lbs.) played his collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State and was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round (217th overall) of the 2002 NHL entry draft.

Morrison, 30, has posted a 5-4-1 record, a 2.79 goals-against average and a.903 save percentage in 10 games with Florida this season. The Medford, MA native appeared in 29 National Hockey League contests from 2005-2007 with Ottawa, Phoenix and Edmonton, posting an 11-7-3 record with a 4.14 goals-against average and an.850 save percentage. Morrison (6'3", 202 lbs) was originally drafted out of the University of Maine by the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He split last season between the Austrian Hockey League's Ljubljana Olimpija HK (24 games) and the Swedish Elite League's Modo Hockey Ornskoldsvik.(13 games).
