Mancari Scores Twice To Lead Pirates To Win

Worcester, MA - Mark Mancari scored twice, including the game winner, as the Portland Pirates came-from-behind to knock off the Worcester Sharks 5-3 in an American Hockey League game tonight at the DCU Center.

Tyler Ennis added a goal and two assists for the Pirates while Derek Whitmore and Jeff Cowan rounded out the goal scoring. Nathan Gerbe collected two helpers as the Pirates improved to 7-10-2-0 on the season.

Ryan Vesce, Dan DiSilva and Benn Ferriero scored for the Sharks, who led 2-0 and 3-1 in the game. Worcester dropped their sixth straight and sunk to 8-9-0-1.

The Sharks led 2-0 after one on goals by Vesce and DaSilva. Ennis opened the second with a power-play goal in the opening minute to half the Worcester lead only to see the Sharks answer back only 56 second later to restore their two-goal advantage. Mancari made it a one-goal game heading into the third as he cranked his eighth of the season off the goal post.

Whitmore tied the game midway through the third and five minutes later Mancari struck on the power play to give the Pirates their first lead of the game. Cowan completed the scoring with an empty netter in the final seconds of the game.

The Sharks out shot the Pirates 32-29 in the game as J.P. Lamoureux posted the victory.

The Pirates close out this week's action with home games Friday and Saturday at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Friday at 7 p.m. against the Worcester Sharks it's Veterans Night, Student Achiever Night and the UNUM Challenge. The Pirates will be honoring and recognizing all of those individuals who have served in our armed forces with a special ticket offer; the Pirates also welcome the Student Achievers from schools around Maine. Plus, the Unum Challenge between the Pirates and the Sharks is underway and includes every game in the regular season series between the two teams. At each game in each city, one lucky fan is chosen from the submitted entrees as the Unum Challenge Fan-of-the-Game. Each fan wins a replica jersey and receives five tickets to a future game.

Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Admirals make a return visit to the CCCC, you can meet the Maine Red Claws, enter for a chance to win the Pirates Treasure Chest and help the Good Shepherd Food Bank with a donation. It's Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland and we invite fans to join the Pirates and get the full Labatt Blue Light experience. In addition, the Pirates welcome the newest professional sports team in Portland, the Maine Red Claws NBA Development Team. Come meet the players, the Sun Tan City Dancers and the mascot, "Crusher", before they embark on their inaugural season. All hands on deck for Treasure Chest Night as Salty Pete's Treasure Chest in the main lobby will be filled with over $500 worth of prizes from the Pirates and participating sponsors. Simply fill out a customer service survey at the Customer Service Table in the main lobby for a chance to win. The Good Shepherd Food Bank will also be accepting donations for local charities and in return Pirates fans will receive a ticket for a future home game. Can't make it to the game?
