Syracuse Crunch News Release

Albany, NY (November 18, 2009) - A three-goal second period with two coming from rookie Drayson Bowman proved to be enough for Albany, as they defeated the Crunch tonight by a 5-2 score in front of 2,101 fans at the Times Union Center.

Playing for the second time in a week, the Crunch and Albany wasted no time getting to know each other and battled to a scoreless first period with the River Rats outshooting the Crunch by a 13-9 margin.

As they did last Wednesday, Albany drew first blood and went up 1-0 on a goal by Nick Dodge just after a power play opportunity had expired.

Mike Angelidis got the puck to the front of the net and Dodge out-muscled the Crunch defenseman in front to swat a backhand past Kevin Lalnde at the 5:55 mark.

Albany quickly doubled its lead just a minute and a half later when Bowman took a feed from Brad Herauf, glided down the right wing and let go a wrister that beat Lalande over the shoulder.

Bowman tallied his second marker, this time with 26 seconds left in the second period, again just after an Albany power play expired, when he planted himself in front of the net and punched in a centering feed from Jamie McBain.

Shots favored Albany by a 29-21 margin through two periods.

The River Rats went up 4-0 just two minutes into the third frame, when Jerome Samson put a shot past Lalande from the top of the crease on a pass from Stefan Chaput.

The Crunch finally got on the board at the 4:02 mark of the third when Alexandre Picard pounded home a rebound from a Trevor Frischmon shot from the slot to make it a 4-1 game.

Brock McBride pulled the Crunch to within two with his first professional goal at the 18:22 mark, but Steven Goertzen's empty-netter with 49 seconds left put the game away.
