Peoria Rivermen News Release

HOUSTON (November 18, 2009) - In their first meeting since the Aeros ended the Rivermen's season in the playoffs last season, Houston continued to frustrate Peoria with a 1-0 win on Wednesday at the Toyota Center. Jean-Michel Daoust's power-play goal with 8:55 left in regulation was the only blemish on an otherwise flawless evening for goaltender Ben Bishop.

Bishop finished with 20 saves, nine of which he was forced to make during the third period. Excluding shootout goals, the Rivermen have been held scoreless in Bishop's last 151:17 of work. It was the first time the Rivermen have lost a game this season in which they have allowed two or fewer goals.

The Rivermen power play, that was 3-for-4 in their last outing, was held off the board in all five opportunities on Wednesday. The Aeros penalty kill, which was ranked second in the league coming into the game, has now killed off 69 of the 73 power plays (94.5 percent) against them this season.

Daoust's goal came on the fourth and final power play of the game for Houston, at 11:05 of the third period. Former Rivermen Jon DiSalvatore blasted a shot off the arm of Bishop and Daoust wristed home the rebound from just outside the crease. It was the third of the year for Daoust and the team-leading ninth assist for DiSalvatore.

Anton Khudobin made 16 saves to improve to 8-3-0 and pick up his third shutout of the young season. He made a number of difficult saves including denying Lars Eller on a breakaway in the second and standing his ground amidst a flurry of activity as the final horn sounded.

It was the second time the Rivermen have been shutout this season, both have come in their last three games.

Peoria continues their road trip on Friday in San Antonio to meet the Rampage at 7:00 p.m. San Antonio has lost nine games in a row and have fallen into a tie for last place in the West Division. Peoria took their first matchup 5-4 in a shootout.

The Rivermen return home on Wednesday, Nov. 25 to take on the Abbotsford Heat. Tickets are available at the Rivermen office by calling 309-676-1040 or online at www.rivermen.net/tickets.
