
Texas Stars Swap Players with Peoria Rivermen

CEDAR PARK, TX - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that the St. Louis Blues have loaned forward Brett Sonne (pronounced SAH-nay) to Texas. Additionally, Dallas has loaned defenseman Carl Sneep to Peoria.
Sonne, 23, played in 56 games for Peoria this season, posting 15 points (7 goals, 8 assists) and 14 penalty minutes. The Maple Grove, British Columbia native began the season with the Evansville Icemen, piling up seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in seven ECHL games, before getting recalled to Peoria. Currently in his fourth professional season, the six-foot 200-pound center has appeared in 265 career AHL games, all with Peoria, where he scored 65 points (31 goals, 34 assists) and had 132 penalty minutes. Sonne was drafted by St. Louis in the third round (85th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He played parts of five seasons of major junior hockey for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. In 232 career WHL games, Sonne had 171 points (89 goals, 82 assists) and 175 penalty minutes, while also appearing in 61 career WHL playoff games, where he tallied 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists) and 62 PIMs. Sonne represented Canada at the 2009 IIHF Under-20 World Junior Championships, held in Ottawa, Ontario, and helped Team Canada win the gold medal, beating Sweden in the championship game.
Sneep, 25, was acquired by Dallas on January 24 from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The St. Louis Park, Minnesota native played in 25 games for Texas, recording six points (2 goals, 4 assists), 10 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating. He appeared in 29 games this year for the Wheeling Nailers, registering a plus-12 rating and 15 points (3 goals, 12 assists), which ranked third among all Nailers defensemen in scoring. Sneep also skated in one AHL game this season for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Sneep was drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
The Texas Stars will continue their five-game road trip on Thursday, April 11th as they travel to Charlotte for a 6:00 p.m. CT faceoff with the Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena. The Stars next home game is on Friday, April 19th against the Houston Aeros at 7:30 p.m. Friday's game at Cedar Park Center is a $3 Beer Night and another Texas Lottery Lucky Section Night, where fans can win scratch off tickets from the Texas Lottery when the first Stars player scores a goal. 2013-14 Season Tickets are now on sale.
