Carl Sneep Acquired by Peoria

Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today the club has acquired defenseman Carl Sneep from the Texas Stars in exchange for forward Brett Sonne.

Sneep, 25, has spent the last 25 games with the Texas Stars after beginning this season with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. He was acquired by Dallas on Jan. 24 in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. With Texas he registered six points (two goals, four assists) in 25 games. He has also played 29 games this season for ECHL Wheeling (three goals, 12 assists) and one game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Selected by Pittsburgh in the second round (#32 overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Sneep made his NHL debut last year with the Penguins on Dec. 17. He registered an assist in his only NHL game.

A native of Brainerd, Minn., He played four years of NCAA Division I college hockey for Boston College of Hockey East and won the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey National Championship in both 2008 and 2010. In 157 career NCAA games for the Eagles, Sneep had 64 points (17 goals, 47 assists) and 75 penalty minutes.

Sonne, 23, has played 265 games with the Rivermen over the past four seasons. This season he had 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 56 games for Peoria.
