Wichita Thunder News Release

TULSA, OK- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Tulsa Oilers 6-3 on Friday night at the BOK Center. Jason Tessier scored Wichita's third hat trick of the season, leading the Thunder offense that had their biggest output since beating the Oilers 7-3 on November 26th at the Kansas Coliseum.

Wichita grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal from Troy Ofukany at 7:22. The Oilers received goals from R.J. Linder and Jeff Christian less than 30 seconds apart to take a 2-1 advantage, but Curtiss Patrick re-tied the game for Wichita at 9:26. The four-goal flurry from both clubs came in a span of 2:04.

The Thunder took their second and final lead of the night when Tessier connected on a two-man advantage at 7:41 in the second period. Tessier scored another power play goal, also on a two-man advantage, at 14:44 to make it 4-2 Wichita. Bryan Nathe found the back of the net at 15:43 in the second, just after a power play expired, to give the Thunder a 5-2 lead.

Tulsa narrowed the gap in the third, when Jake Riddle tipped in a shot from Peter Kennedy at 3:37. However, the Thunder defense would not allow any further scores, opening the door for Tessier to score on an empty net from his own blue line at 19:25 to complete the hat trick.

The Thunder outshot the Oilers 35 to 33, marking the first time in 10 games this season that Wichita earned a victory when outshooting their opponent. Jordan Hack chipped in two assists in the win.

Krister Toews earned his sixth win of the year, saving 30 of 33 shots. Wichita had gone nine consecutive games without scoring more than three goals. The win was Wichita's fifth road victory this season. The Thunder won just four road games all of last year and did not pick up a road win until December 22nd.
