(Southaven, MS) -- Ted Vandermeer's two goals backed up the goaltending of Doug Groenestege as Oklahoma City defeated the Mississippi RiverKings in Central Hockey League action here Friday, December 26th.

Oklahoma City opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal scored by Stacey Bauman at 10:12.

Both teams scored twice in the second period, with the RiverKings answering the bell with a power play goal from Louis Dumont, whose 12th goal of the year was also his second power play tally at 1:03 of the middle frame.

Mississippi also got a power play goal in the second period from Jeff Nelson, who notched his seventh goal of the year (fourth on the power play) at 5:17.

However, the Blazers got goals from Ted Vandermeer and Brian Passmore (power play goal) for a 3-2 advantage after forty minutes of play.

In the third period, Ted Vandermeer's second goal of the night gave the Blazers a 4-2 lead, but Bobby Chaumont made things interesting with his 16th goal of the year at 14:29. However, Mississippi could get no closer and Oklahoma City had won its second game of the season against the RiverKings.

Mississippi fell, despite outshooting the Blazers 44-26. Winning goaltender Doug Groenestege made 41 saves in posting the victory (9-2-0), while Mississippi netminder Kevin Beech stopped 22 of 26 shots on net in suffering the loss (12-8-0).
