Rage Roll Past Scorpions

December 26, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-New Mexico fell to Rocky Mountain 6-2 on Friday night. It was the Scorps sixth loss in their last seven games.

The Rage struck three times in the opening period. Daymen Rycroft scored 13:32 into the contest with a wrist shot for his 11th goal of the season. Less than a minute later Brent Cullaton pushed home a rebound giving his team a 2-0 lead. With under a minute remaining in the opening period Scott Wray picked up a rebound goal, his eighth of the season.

The Scorpions looked to get back into the game with a two-man advantage. Instead Rocky Mountain scored a shorthanded goal as Cullaton got free on a breakaway, his second tally of the game.

Bad luck continued for the home team as Jarred Mohr dumped the puck into the zone. It hit the glass oddly as goaltender Jason Wolfe went to play it. The puck fluttered to the front of the Scorps net where Colt King was able to push it into the open net just before Wolfe got back to the crease.

New Mexico got their lone goal on the power play early in the final frame. Neill Trimm's wrist shot found the back of the net, his sixth goal of the year. The Rage took back the five-goal edge when Domenic Maiani deflected the puck into the net. Craig Macdonald scored a breakaway goal late in the third period to finish the night's scoring.

On Saturday the Scorpions visit Colorado to face the Eagles. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal or seen for free on the CHL Network.

The following afternoon New Mexico hosts Odessa at 3:15 p.m. Bring your skates and enjoy a skate with the Scorps following the Sunday afternoon affair. Following the skate join the players for a post game party at Turtle Mountain Brewing Company.
