Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - Amarillo opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period, and the Jacks couldn't catch up for the rest of the game. Mike Gorman made 35 saves to preserve a 7-4 win for the Gorillas on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.

Jonathan Ornelas, Nick Theriault, and Jason Weitzel all scored first period goals for Amarillo. Sebastien Thinel added one for the Jacks on the power play at 18:20 to give him 20 goals on the season.

In the third period things got a little exciting as the Jacks pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and closed the gap to two not one, but twice. Amarillo's Sam Ftorek and Nick Theriault each added empty net goals to make the final score 7-4.

Theriault finished the game with a hat trick, also scoring a goal in the second period. The Jacks also received goals from Josh Chase, Phil Plante, and Brian Swiniarski. The loss snaps Odessa's nine-game home winning streak.

The Jacks and Gorillas play game two of their home-and-home series Saturday night in Amarillo at the Civic Center. The puck drops at 7:05 PM and the game can be heard on 97 Gold or online via the CHL Network.
