
IceRays Sign Veteran Curtis Huppe

The Corpus Christi IceRays have signed veteran forward Curtis Huppe (pronounced HUPP-ee), General Manager Pat Dunn announced Friday afternoon. Huppe is expected to join the team and make his IceRays debut in their Friday night contest at Bossier-Shreveport. The IceRays return to Corpus Christi on Saturday night at 7:05pm to host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Champion Hyundai Night on Caller-Times Family Night. Huppe, 29, comes to Corpus Christi after spending the last four seasons playing in England. Last year Huppe was teammates with current IceRays Head Coach Sylvain Cloutier with the Coventry Blaze where they both had 76 points on the season to help lead Coventry to their second consecutive championship. Huppe finished second on the team in goals tallying 37. The 6'1", 200 lbs. Winnipeg, Manitoba native last played professionally in North America in 2003-2004 when he was a member of the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL.
The IceRays are the tenth team that Huppe will play for in his professional career. Huppe has been a minimum 20-goal scorer in each of his eight previous seasons since turning pro. He had retired after last season in England, however will make his comeback this season with the IceRays. Overall, Huppe has played in 469 career games amassing 203 goals, 232 assists and 435 points. He becomes the fourth veteran on the IceRays, replacing the vacancy left by departed forward John McNabb earlier in the season.
The IceRays also announced on Friday that they have placed forwards Patrick Steinmayr and Brett Connelly on the 15-day injured reserve list.
