Tessier's Hat Trick Leads Falcons to Victory

February 3, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

VICTORIA, British Columbia - Dan Tessier registered a hat trick and Jamie Hodson made 40 saves to help lead the Fresno Falcons to a 7-3 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings at Bear Mountain Arena.

The first period was filled with end-to-end action featuring six goals between the two teams and a combined 29 shots on goal. Victoria opened the scoring off a shot from the left point by locked-out NHL'er Dale Purinton at 2:19. Tessier responded at 4:12 to tie the game, but the Salmon Kings took their second lead of the game two minutes later when Alexei Glukhov scored an unassisted tally. The Falcons evened the contest again on the power play at 8:46 from Derek Krestanovich before Tessier scored his second goal of the game to give Fresno the lead at 12:12, 3-2. John Wroblewski then gave the Falcons the game's first multiple-goal lead with an unassisted, short-handed marker at 13:29, which served as the eventual game-winner.

Fresno added to its lead in the second by taking advantage of 42 minutes in penalties on one play by Purinton, who instigated a fight with the Falcons' Clint Cabana and then was given a "deliberately trying to injure" match penalty (among other penalties) for pulling the Fresno defenseman's hair. On the ensuing seven minute power play, Charles Simard spotted David Brisson driving the net, who finished the play with his 10th goal of the season at 7:50.

The Falcons added to their 5-2 lead when Tessier completed the team's third hat trick of the season by notching his 20th goal of the campaign at 6:57 of the third, which was followed 32 seconds later by Shaun Sutter's 18th goal of the year to give Fresno a 7-2 advantage. Victoria's Ryan Wade found the back of the net with just over two minutes remaining for the final 7-3 margin.

The win moves Fresno to 23-16-4 this season, equaling last season's victory with still 29 games left on the schedule, and keeps the Salmon Kings winless over their last 19 hockey games (0-17-2).

The Falcons stay in Victoria for two more games against the Salmon Kings on Friday and Saturday before returning home for a clash with the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Save Mart Center at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the game on Feb. 8 are on sale now for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at the Save Mart Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
