Stingrays' Daigneault Named Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Maxime Daigneault of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for January.

Under contract to Washington of the National Hockey League and in his first professional season, the 21-year-old Daigneault was undefeated in six starts while helping the Stingrays set a team record and ECHL season-high with 10 consecutive wins. He finished January with a 6-0-0 record, a goals-against average of 1.65 and a save percentage of .946.

After opening with back-to-back home wins against Florida and Columbia, the 6-2 and 205-pound Daigneault posted his first professional shutout, making 28 saves in a 2-0 win at Augusta on January 15. He had a pair of wins against Johnstown, making 29 saves in a 4-3 win and 34 saves in a 4-2 win, and closed out the month making 21 saves in a 4-1 win at East Division leader Charlotte. Selected in the second round (59th overall) by Washington in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Daigneault is 10-5-0 with a goals-against average of 2.91 and a save percentage of .905.

He was runner-up for ECHL Saver of the Week for October 25-30 after finishing 2-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .952.

The St-Jacques-le-Mineur, Quebec native played four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Val-d'Or Foreurs where he was 85-75-18 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of .900. He lowered his goals-against average and raised his save percentage each season, finishing 23-22-9 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .912 in his final season in 2003-04.

Runners Up: Matt Underhill, Mississippi (8-1-0, 1.88 GAA, .947 save pct.) and Scott Fankhouser, Toledo (9-3-1, 1.75 GAA, .932 save pct.).
