Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC â Unfortunately for the Victoria Salmon Kings the month of February started the same as the month of January. The Fresno Falcons made their first visit to the Bear Mountain Arena, and beat the Salmon Kings 7-3.
Fresno takes sole possession of fourth place in the West Division of the ECHL with the win over the Salmon Kings and San Diego's 6-2 loss to Alaska.
Victoria's Alexei Glukhov has begun showing some spark notching an assist in both games in Las Vegas. He continued his streak, scoring a beautiful back hander over the shoulder of Falcons goaltender Jamie Hodson. Glukhov dominated the face-off dot and forced Hodson to make some outstanding saves to maintain the Falcons lead.
The Salmon Kings opened the first period pressuring the Falcons and forced them to make crucial mistakes in their own zone. Mark Smith and Ryan Wade set up Dale Purinton's third goal of the season to give Victoria the early lead.
The scoring didn't stop there. Just over two minutes later Dan Tessier scored his eighteenth of the season from David Brisson. The Salmon Kings regained the lead on Glukhov's first, but were unable to stop the Falcons offense.
Shaun Sutter set up Derek Krestanovich's sixteenth on the Fresno power-play. Dan Tessier recorded his second of the game from Brisson and Sam Ftorek to give the Falcons their first lead of the game.
Victoria was never able to recover and John Wroblewski scored his fourth of the season on a short-handed break-away to put the Salmon were on ice, with the score 4-2 heading to the room after one.
The Falcons scored three more in the final two periods from Brisson, Sutter and Tessier who finished the night with the hat-trick. The Salmon Kings third goal came from the stick of Ryan Wade, his eighth of the season, on a nice shot that beat Hodson stick side.
Jason Stone made his third straight start between the Salmon Kings pipes but was relieved half way through the first by Kelly Shields.
The Salmon Kings and the Falcons renew acquaintances on Friday February 4, 2005 at Bear Mountain Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
