Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Six different goal-scorers and Peter Aubry's 34 saves proved to be more than enough as Alaska overwhelmed Bakersfield 6-2 before 3,023 Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.

Condors goalie Randy Petruk seemed to be on his game early, stopping 19 first period shots while allowing only a power play goal by Charles Linglet at the 2:53 mark. After out-shooting the visitors 20-9 over the first 20 minutes, Alaska fell silent in the second, without a shot on goal for the first eight minutes of the period and generally being out-played. But the game turned when Bakersfield's Tony Lawrence won a face-off with Kimbi Daniels in his own zone cleanly, only to see the puck carom off his defenseman's skate (Luis Tremblay) and between Petruk's pads at 14:02 of the middle frame. As a result, despite having a 15-6 edge in shots during the second period, the Condors entered the third trailing 2-0.

The Aces pounced on the seemingly demoralized visitors in the third, with Cal Benazic's power play goal at 1:08 setting off a rally that put the game away. Chris Heisten followed with his ninth of the season (and eighth since the New Year) on another friendly bounce at 2:23. Trying to find a cutting Mike Lee in front of the net, Heisten's own pass came right back to him, allowing him to roof the puck over Petruk. Joe Talbot promptly scored on the rush at 3:26, extending the lead to 5-0 and ending the competitive phase of the match. Mike Scott scored his first goal since January 7 and his third in the last 29 games with eight minutes remaining to close out Alaska's scoring.

Ryan Gillis ended Aubry's shutout bid with 7:24 left, and Vlad Serov scored a meaningless power play goal for the Condors at 18:54 to account for the final margin. Bakersfield absorbs just its second loss in 14 games (10-2-2), while the Aces have won six of their last seven and boast a 12-2-2 mark in their last 16 outings. Alaska (25-14-4) overall remains in third place in the West Division, but now sits just four points out of second, a position currently occupied its opponent this week.

Tomorrow night's rematch against the Condors (26-11-6) begins at 7:15 p.m., while Saturday's series finale starts at 2:05 p.m., immediately before a night game between UAA and St. Cloud at Sullivan Arena. Both games will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and be made available via video webcast for only $6.00 per game at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
