Pensacola's Beechey Named CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Pensacola center Tyler Beechey is the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for January.

Beechey led the team with 25 points (7g-18a) as the Ice Pilots went 10-4-1 in January and he also was a starter for the American Conference in the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, Pa.

Now in his third professional season and his second season with Pensacola, Beechey had seven multiple-point games in January, including four points against Louisiana on January 8 (2g-2a) and Augusta on January 29 (1g-3a) and three points at Texas on January 9 (1g-2a) and at Long Beach on January 23 (1g-2a). He had four consecutive games where he scored multiple points - January 7 against Louisiana (1g-1a), January 8 against Louisiana (2g-2a), January 9 at Texas (1g-2a) and January 14 at Idaho (0g-2a). In the Ice Pilots 3-0 win at Long Beach on January 23, Beechey scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the other two goals.

The 5-11 and 195-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta had a plus-minus rating of +8 for the month, finishing even or better in 12 of his 15 games. He ended the month with a five-game scoring streak (2g-8a) and a five-game assist streak (8a).

Beechey leads the ECHL with 56 points and 21 power-play points (7ppg-14ppa) in 43 games and he is tied for the league lead with seven game-winning goals and three shorthand assists. He ranks second in the league with 35 assists and is tied for second with 14 power-play assists. He is tied for third in the ECHL with 21 goals.

In 2003-04 with Pensacola, Beechey scored 60 points (25g-35a) in 69 regular season games and five points (3g-2a) in five Kelly Cup Playoff games. In his first professional season in 2002-03, he scored 46 points (8g-38a) in 51 games with Trenton while also playing with Providence of the American Hockey League, scoring three points (2g-1a) in three games.

Runners Up: Chris Minard, Alaska (11 gp, 14g, 5a, 19 pts) and Chad Spurr, Pee Dee (13 gp, 6g, 15a, 21 pts).
