Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (February 3, 2005) - The Trenton Titans announced on Thursday that they have acquired defenseman Michael Schutte from the Dayton Bombers in exchange for left wing Mathieu Brunelle.
Schutte, 6'2", 190 lbs, had registered 4 goals, 9 assists and 29 penalty minutes in 34 games this season with the Bombers. A third-year pro, Schutte skated for three years with the Black Bears of the University of Maine. On May 23, 2002, the native of Burlington, Ontario signed a professional contract with the Phoenix Coyotes, foregoing his final season of college eligibility. The 25-year old Schutte has recorded 43 points (16g, 27a) and 98 penalty minutes, while appearing with Cincinnati Ducks, Houston Aeros, Lowell Lock Monsters, and Springfield Falcons over 101 games in the American Hockey League.
"Schutte's another quality player that comes from a big time program at Maine," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Mike Haviland. "He can move the puck very well and brings some offensive punch to our defensive corps."
Brunelle leaves Trenton having notched 38 goals, 39 assists and 151 penalty minutes in 101 games since 2003-04. Originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the seventh round (#201 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 21-year old set a Titans record on January 31, 2004 with five goals in a game against the Augusta Lynx. A native of Warwick, Quebec, Brunelle compiled 211 points (88g, 123a) in 207 games over four-year career in QMJHL.
In a separate transaction, defenseman Matt Libby was loaned to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. Libby, 26, leads team defensemen with 14 points (1g, 13a) over 30 games. This past off-season, the fourth-year pro signed on for his second term with the Titans. Libby's first stint with Trenton came during his rookie season in 2001-02, where he registered 28 points (7g, 21a) over 49 games and was selected to the Northern Conference All-Star Team and the All-ECHL Rookie Team.
NOW PLAYING! The Titans face the Toledo Storm on Friday, February 4 at 7:30pm. Call a Titans Ticket Representative at (609) 599-9500. The Trenton Titans are a member of the ECHL - North America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
