Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Curtis Terry and Julio Pablo Martinez hit a pair of solo home runs to lift the Wood Ducks to a 3-1 victory over the Pelicans in a rain-shortened contest, Monday.
Down East (11-8, 61-28) picks up their third consecutive victory, and 13th in 16 games against the Pelicans (9-10, 30-56) on the year.
Noah Bremer made his return to the mound for the Woodies, after missing the last two months due to injury. Bremer got in trouble in the first inning, loading the bases on a pair of hit batsmen and a sing. Tyler Payne then lifted a sac fly to right field to score Zach Davis, and put the pelicans ahead, 1-0, but on the play, Yanio Perez gunned down Jimmy Herron at third base for the second out.
Bremer would settle in after that, working four innings, allowing just one run. He allowed just one hit, and did not record a walk or a strikeout. Bremer retired the final 11 batters he faced, but did not factor in the decision.
The Wood Ducks evened the score in the second when Terry led off the inning with a home run against Ryan Kellogg. It was the third home run Terry has hit in the last two games, and his 19th overall on the season, tying the score at 1-1.
Kellogg worked five innings allowing just one run on five hits, he struck out two, and did not walk a batter. Kellogg did not factor in the decision.
The Woodies took their first lead of the ballgame in the sixth. Martinez blasted a home run to right field as the first batter that Enrique De Los Rios (loss, 1-1) faced, to make it 2-1 Down East. Later in the inning, after Terry and Perez reached on infield singles, Josh Altmann lined an RBI single to center, to push the advantage to 3-1.
De Los Rios allowed two runs on four hits in his lone inning of work.
Jefferson Medina (win, 2-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen for the Woodies. He fired two scoreless innings, giving up one hit, and was aided by a pair of Pelicans runner being caught stealing.
Following the sixth inning, with lightening in the area and storms making their way in, the tarp was called for, and after waiting 30 minutes, the game was called as a completed contest.
The Wood Ducks go for the sweep against the Pelicans Tuesday, when they send lefty John King (2-1, 1.88) to the mound to face off with Myrtle Beach righty Erich Uelmen (2-2, 3.46). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and the pregame show will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull and online on 960thebull.com as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio apps.
