Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Thanks to a tremendous start from Jorgan Cavanerio and some timely offense, the Dash earned a 3-2 victory over the Frederick Keys on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Making his 10th start with Winston-Salem (8-11, 46-37), Cavanerio (5-0) continued his strong season. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits while striking out five and allowing only one walk. It was the third straight quality start from Cavanerio.
The Dash got on the board early against Frederick (5-14, 34-54) starter Brenan Hanifee (5-9) in the bottom of the second. With one out, Zach Remillard reached on an infield single before stealing second base as Craig Dedelow struck out. Carlos Perez then blooped a single into center field, scoring Remillard to make it 1-0.
Frederick finally plated a run in the top of the seventh against Cavanerio. To lead off the frame, JC Escarra launched a solo homer to the concourse in right field to knot the score at one.
However, Winston-Salem responded in the bottom of the seventh. To lead off the frame, Jameson Fisher lined a single into left field before Remillard grounded into a fielder's choice to replace him at first. Then, Dedelow smacked a triple into the right-field corner to plate Remillard and give the Dash a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Dash added an insurance run. Leading off the inning, Tate Blackman crushed a solo homer into left-center field to push the lead to two runs.
The Keys threatened to tie the game in the ninth against Will Kincanon. After Zach Jarrett struckout, JC Escarra walked and Jomar Reyes singled to put runners at first and second. The next batter, Patrick Dorrian, deposited a single into left-center field, scoring Escarra to cut the Dash lead to one run. But, Kincanon induced a flyout and a groundout to earn the save and end the ballgame.
The Dash conclude their series with the Keys on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Right-hander Jonathan Stiever (1-2, 2.84 ERA) will take the hill for Winston-Salem against left-hander Cameron Bishop (0-6, 5.03 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on the wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
Tuesday's homestand finale will feature $2 tacos, $2 Tecate and $2 tea. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
