Teddy Bear Toss This Weekend
November 23, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - One of the most anticipated games of the season will take place this weekend. The 7th annual Teddy Bear Toss is this Saturday, November 26th when the Condors host the Fresno Falcons. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:00.
Sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News, KERN News Talk 1410 and Wells Fargo Bank, all fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game to throw onto the ice when the Condors score their first goal of the night. They will be collected by the United Way and distributed to children in need throughout the holiday season.
Through six seasons, the Teddy Bear Toss has become a celebrated part of the Bakersfield hockey tradition. Over 7,100 teddy bears and stuffed animals were collected last season and nearly 13,000 have been donated over the last two seasons, making it one of the most successful Teddy Bear Tosses in all of sports.
Next Wednesday, November 30th, Condorstown will have a full slate to coincide with the Condors' match-up with the Johnstown Chiefs. That evening will play host to the annual Project Warm Families Coat Collection, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, News Radio 970 KGET and Barber Honda. All fans who donate a coat will receive $1 terrace-level ticket. Each fan in attendance will receive a commemorative Condors "Old Time Hockey" poster, featuring several Condors dressed as characters from the classic hockey film "Slap Shot."
In addition, the Stanley Cup will be on display at the Rabobank Arena prior to and during the game. Fans bringing their own camera can have their picture taken with the Cup free of charge, although fans are encouraged to contribute to the Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief Fund as they stand with Lord Stanley's trophy. Photo opportunities will also be available for those without a camera handy.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be no Condors Coach's Show this week. The show will return live to the Holiday Inn Select next Thursday at 6:00pm, and can be heard on KGEO Hot Talk AM 1230.
The Condors Team Store, located across the street from Rabobank Arena on Truxtun Ave., is closed on Thursday but will be open on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. While you're out getting a head start on your holiday shopping, remember the gift of Condors hockey. A snazzy new jersey or a comfy sweatshirt from the Condors Team Store makes the perfect gift for any sports fan. The Team Store can be reached at 324-NETT (6388) or online at bakersfieldcondors.com.
The Condors office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will open during regular hours on Friday, November 25th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office will open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rabobank Arena box office will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and will re-open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Tickets can also be purchased at all TicketMaster outlets, by phone at 322-2525, or online at bakersfieldcondors.com.
