San Diego Gulls News Release


SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls, unbeaten in six of their last seven games, begin a season-long seven-game homestand tonight against the Victoria Salmon Kings.

SERIES HISTORY:

Tonight is the first regular season match-up between the Gulls and Salmon Kings. Last season, San Diego was 4-2-1 against Victoria. The teams square off four more times during the regular season, three of which will be in Victoria.

LAST GAME (NOV. 19 AT FRESNO):

It was a scoreless game heading into the third period, but the Falcons tallied three straight goals - including two in a 49-second span - and skated away 3-1 winners. Dustin Van Ballegooie started the scoring just 19 seconds into the final fame before Shawn Mather and Luke Curtin scored back-to-back goals midway through the stanza. Guillaume Fournier scored the lone tally for the Gulls, extending his career-best point streak to seven games.

GULLS UPDATE:

San Diego (5-6-2) enters the day with 12 points, tied for third in the Pacific Division with the Bakersfield Condors. The Gulls trail the first-place Fresno Falcons by six points and are two points back of the second-place Long Beach Ice Dogs. Even with the loss Saturday in Fresno, San Diego is still unbeaten in six of its last seven games (4-1-2)... Five of its last seven games have been decided by one goal... The Gulls played 10 of their first 13 games on the road... Tonight is the beginning of a season-long seven-game homestand.

OTHER NOTES:

Tonight is San Diego's 400th all-time home game (which includes all West Coast Hockey League and postseason play). The Gulls are 308-69-22 all-time at home (.799 winning percentage)... Fournier is in the midst of a career-high seven-game point streak (4g, 6a)... The "French Fries" line of Fournier, Pierre-Luc Sleigher and Martin Mandeville has combined for 20 points (9g, 11a) in the last seven games... Steve Hildenbrand has scored a point in three straight games (3g, 3a)... The Gulls have killed 26 straight penalties, dating back to Nov. 12 in Fresno. They now rank 18th overall in penalty killing (79.7 percent)... San Diego has scored 13 power-play goals in the last seven games...

VICTORIA UPDATE:

Victoria (5-9-1) starts the day fifth in the West Division, four points back of the fourth-place Las Vegas Wranglers and one point ahead of the last-place Phoenix Roadrunners... The Salmon Kings have lost three of their last four games (1-3-0), including a 3-2 setback last night in Phoenix... Tonight is the second of a five-game road trip for Victoria... Mike Wirll leads the club with 15 points (4g, 11a)... Steve Lingren is tied for first in the ECHL with six power-play goals... Victoria's power-play ranks sixth overall (20.7 percent)...

TRANSACTIONS:

Right-winger Dan DaSilva was assigned by the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters... Right-winger Jesse Bennefield was activated from the seven-day injured list... Defenseman Doug MacIver was placed on the seven-day injured reserve Tuesday with a knee sprain... Center Alex Kim and defenseman Jason Reimers were both signed on Monday... Forward Matt Kunsman and defenseman Justin Silver were released... Defenseman Chet Ferreira remains out of the lineup with a knee injury... Forward Frantisek Skladany and defenseman Tomas Slovak both remain with Lowell...
