Holiday Weeked Starts With Loss in WV

Wheeling, WV - The Dayton Bombers dropped a 5-3 decision to the Wheeling Nailers in front of 2,257 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia Wednesday night. Dayton's Jeff Szwez scored three times in the third period in the loss.

After a 3-hour trip turned into a 6 hour, weather-related ordeal before the Bombers late arrival in Wheeling, the Nailers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Jordan Cameron opened the scoring just 51 seconds into game with his 4th goal of the season. Then, Luis Tremblay made it 2-0 with his first goal of the season at 16:41.

Sean Collins gave Wheeling a 3-0 lead at 3:31 of the second period. Bombers starting goaltender Chad Collins was replaced by Sean Broderick after allowing 3 goals on 11 shots. The Nailers took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission after a powerplay goal by Kurtis McLean at 14:45.

The Nailers blew open a 5-0 lead when Jordan Cameron scored his second goal of the night, on the powerplay, 63 seconds into the third period. Jeff Szwez scored three straight goals for the Bombers (1:53, 13:37, 14:40), but wheeling held on for the 5-3 win. It was the first hat trick for a Bombers player this season. Wheeling outshot Dayton, 36-23.

The Dayton Bombers, proud "AA" affiliate of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets, are celebrating their 15th Anniversary this season. The Bombers expect to entertain the two millionth fan in franchise history when they return home Friday night to host the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 PM.
