
Stingrays fall to Charlotte 5-2

North Charleston, SC Nathan Gillies and Blake Bellefeuille scored two goals each as the Charlotte Checkers broke a four game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays in front of 4,178 at the Coliseum. The loss increased the Rays winless streak to ten games at 0-7-3.
With the Loss the Rays fall to 2-8-5, while the Checkers improve to 6-4-1. Charlotte now has a record of 4-0 against South Carolina on the season.
The two teams traded goals in the first period with Robin Gomez scoring at 4:42 for the Rays off a Ryan Finnerty face of and Blake Bellefeuille answering for the Checkers at 17:00.
Charlotte took control of the game in the second with three goals and led 4-2 after two periods. Hugh Jessiman had a goal at 9:18 for the Checkers to give Charlotte the lead for good. Jessiman had a three point night and now has seven out of his eight points against the Stingrays. Blake Bellefeuille netted his second of the night at 11:52 putting the Checkers up by two. After a South Carolina time out, the Rays answered with a power play goal when Matt Reid found Brad Parson in front for his third of the season. Nathan Gillies scored the games final two goals including an unassisted goal in the third period to give Charlotte the win.
The Rays out shot the Checkers 44-34 in the loss.
The Stingrays will play on Friday night at home against the Gwinnett Gladiators, travel to Columbia on Saturday and host Florida on Sunday at 3:00.
