Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Red Deer, AB - From being down to ten forwards, to one of the best defensive outings all season, the Medicine Hat Tigers closed out their season series with the Red Deer Rebels with a 4-1 win in Red Deer Monday afternoon.

The Tigers got in on the action early in the 1st period as Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) would pot his 23rd of the season banking the puck from behind the Rebels net beating goaltender Kyle Kelsey. Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, AB) & Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) just 45 seconds from the opening puck drop.

As the period progressed, the Tigers forward front suffered a set-back as Pasha Bocharov (Escondido, CA) would be injured after a Christoffer Sedoff Hit to the Head penalty would drop the Tigers to 10 forward and a 5 minute power play. Despite not scoring on the five minute advantage, the Tigers would benefit lat in the first on another power play on a brilliant display of passing from Red Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) & Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) to set-up Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) for his 12th of the season at 16:24, the power play goal itself took all of six seconds to orchestrate. Medicine Hat would take their 2-0 performance into the second period outshooting the Rebels 13-5.

In the second period it took a while for both offences to get their legs but on another Tigers power play, Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would one-time home his 16th of the season and 5th power play mark on the campaign to increase the Tiger lead to 3-0 from Reid Andresen's second assist of the night. The Tigers would take their 3-0 lead to the third, outshooting the Rebels 22-10 through 40 minutes.

In the final frame, Red Deer would sneak one past Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) on a centering attempt gone south beating Langkow just 4:10 into the 3rd but the Tigers would maintain their pressure and work ethic all game and finally put things away with the goalie pulled for Red Deer, as Brenden Lee would hit the empty net for his second of the night and 24th on the year with 58 seconds left in regulation.

Special teams were in the Tigers favour, going 2/6 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill helping guide themselves to a 23-22-8-1 record.

Beckett Langkow's 16 saves credits him with his 20th win on the season while as of Monday Night, the Tigers sit 8th in the Eastern Conference with 55 points.

Next up for the Tigers is a road game to Regina to battle the Pats at the Brandt Centre Wednesday Night. You can catch the game live on the Home of the Tigers Wild 94.5 with Gino De Paoli starting with the pre-game show at 5:45 MT/ST.
