Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings suffered a 7-3 loss on Monday afternoon at Rogers Place to the visiting Kamloops Blazers.

Despite being outshot 23-5 in the opening 20 minutes, the Oil Kings found themselves down just 2-1 after 20 minutes of play thanks to some fantastic goaltending from Kolby Hay.

The Blazers opened the scoring on a goal from Dylan Sydor at the 8:04 mark of the period after he snapped a quick shot under the bar off a Kamloops offensive zone faceoff win.

The Oil Kings were able to answer back just 26 seconds later after Rilen Kovacevic was able to muscle a puck across the goal line on a goal-mouth scramble in the Kamloops crease for his 13th of the season.

With just under 2:30 left in the period, the Blazers retook their lead on a power play goal from Caedan Bankier as he was able to pick the low far corner from the left-circle.

A wild second period saw five goals scored between the two clubs with the Blazers getting three of them to take a 5-3 lead into the second intermission.

The Oil Kings levelled the score at two 6:26 into the middle stanza thanks to a power play goal from Noah Boyko as he picked the top corner over the glove of Matthew Kieper from the left-circle for his 14th goal of the season.

The Blazers retook the lead 33 seconds later after Daylan Kuefler was able to smack in a nifty backdoor kick pass from Ashton Ferster.

Olen Zellweger extended the visitors lead to two just past the halfway point of the period after he was able to smack in his own rebound in front of the Edmonton net.

Boyko collected his second power play goal of the period at 12:39 after he blasted a one-timer through Kieper from the left-wing circle to bring Edmonton back to within one, but with just over a minute left in the second, Sydor snagged his second tally of the afternoon after redirecting in a point shot from Kyle Masters.

In the third period, the Blazers would tack on a couple more with Matthew Seminoff scoring in the opening minute of the final period and Kuefler adding his second of the contest in the closing minute.

Hay finished the afternoon making 53 saves for the Oil Kings, while Kieper made 16 for the Blazers. Edmonton went 2-for-4 on the power play, Kamloops was 1-for-3.
