Ams Hit the Road for Matinee Matchup in Kelowna

February 20, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release

The Americans will play in Kelowna today in a rare Monday matinee game in celebration of British Columbia's Family Day.

The two teams meet tonight for the third time in their four game season series. The home team has won each prior meeting this season. They most recently played each other on December 3rd when the Americans took a 5-1 victory at the Toyota Center. It was Tri-City's first victory over the Rockets since October 2018. Parker Bell led Tri-City that game with two goals and one assist. Tomas Suchanek played in net for the Ams, turning aside 36 of 37 shots faced.

Tri-City most recently played on Saturday as they shut out the Spokane Chiefs 3-0 at the Toyota Center, putting themselves back in the win column after a season-high six game losing streak. Tomas Suchanek turned aside all 39 shots faced from the Chiefs to earn his second WHL career shutout and first of the season. Deagan McMillan, Marc Lajoie, and Jordan Gavin each scored for Tri-City.

The win pushes Tri-City past Everett into sole possession of 4th place in the Western Conference standings.

After suffering an upper body injury on 1/27 against Everett, Calgary Flames prospect Parker Bell returned to the Americans lineup on Saturday.

Tri-City will look to build a win streak and down the Rockets in their second straight meeting. The Americans have the possibility of clinching a playoff spot tonight. They will secure their spot with a victory over Kelowna and the Seattle Thunderbirds beating the Victoria Royals.
