Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that guard Jermaine Taylor (6-4, 210, Central Florida) has been recalled by the Houston Rockets.
Taylor averaged 21.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in four games (one start) with the Vipers after getting assigned on January 28. Over the last two days in Albuquerque, Taylor averaged 31.0 points, 5.0 rebounds (3.5 offensive), 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals, including a game-high 32 points in last night's 123-114 loss to the Thunderbirds.
Taylor is one of four Vipers alumni on the Rockets roster, joining starting point guard Aaron Brooks, Will Conroy and Joey Dorsey. He is also one of eight Vipers alumni in the NBA, including former-Rocket Steve Novak (Los Angeles Clippers), C.J. Watson (Golden State Warriors), Jawad Williams (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Shannon Brown (Los Angeles Lakers).
"Jermaine made the immediate impact we had hoped for with a pair of 30-point games with the Vipers. He really made the most of his extended minutes with the Vipers, which shows us his ability to apply the things he has learned during his time with the Rockets and translate that into furthering his basketball development," said Rockets Vice President of Player Personnel Gersson Rosas, who is also the General Manager of the Vipers.
The Vipers close out the three-game series in Albuquerque on Friday at 8:00 p.m. before returning to Dodge Arena to host the Reno Bighorns at 7:30 p.m. in the first nationally televised professional sporting event in Rio Grande Valley history. The game can be seen on VERSUS at 10:00 p.m. that night.
Tickets to be a part of history are still available and can be purchased by calling the Vipers at 972-1144.
VERSUS can be found on Channel 314 in standard definition and channel 1314 in high definition on Time Warner Cable. It can also be found on channel 151 on Dish Network.
