Utah Flash News Release
OREM, Utah, February 3, 2010 - Orien Greene led the Utah Flash to a 111-103 victory over the Tulsa 66ers with 32 points, eight rebounds and six assists Wednesday night.
"It was one heck of a basketball game," said head coach Brad Jones. "This is a game of players making plays and Orien Greene made a lot of them tonight."
Making a strong entrance, the Flash took an early lead in the first quarter, pulling ahead 28-13. Utah's Greene landed 12 points while Carlos Wheeler contributed 10 points in the quarter. The 66ers held the game to eight points, trailing 34-26 to wrap up the first quarter.
An early back-and-forth trade between points gave the Flash a lead of 40-30 going into the second. Tulsa went on a six-point run with its own Deron Washington turning things around by closing up the gap 45-40. Tulsa's Washington and Larry Owens recorded seven points and five points, respectively. Despite six points from Luke Nevill in the quarter, Utah's lead slipped to 50-49 at the half.
The third quarter started with four quick points from Utah's Greene and Tulsa's Brown. But it was the 66ers who landed their first lead in two quarters, 57-56, and continued fighting back and pulling ahead. A seven-point run by Utah's Greene and two points by Brian Hamilton caught Utah up, trailing by one point, 66-65. It was a quarter of points for Brown and Greene, with Brown tallying 13 and Greene tallying 11. Neither team landed a dominant lead, but it was Tulsa's momentum that carried through ending the quarter 79-77 for the 66ers.
Tulsa's Washington was ejected from the game beginning the fourth quarter after a hard foul on Gabe Pruitt. Utah's Bennet Davis tied the game 80-80 and took the lead with a dunk 83-82. The 66ers fought back keeping the game within a one-point lead, until a three-point shot by Greene and a dunk by Wheeler pulled the Flash 90-86. Nine more points by Jefferson and four from Greene sealed the deal for Utah, 111-103.
Utah was led by Greene with 32 points, while Jefferson had 19 and Wheeler and Davis each scored 16. Mustafa Shakur and Brown had 20 and 21 points, respectively, for the 66ers.
The two teams meet again Friday night at the McKay Events Center. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
