Flash Crush Red Claws, Secure Spot in Playoffs

The Utah Flash used a solid defensive effort in the fourth quarter to secure their spot in the NBA D-League Playoffs with a 35-point win over the Maine Red Claws [112-77].

The Flash [26-18] led the Red Claws [16-29] 22-19 in the first quarter. The Red Claws scored first, but the Flash maintained the lead for the rest of the quarter, with the largest lead of six points stemming from a 6-0 run.

The Red Claws tied the game early in the second quarter, and held onto to the lead for most of the quarter, but the Flash snatched the lead back off of Tony Gaffney's dunk. The Flash made a 10-2 run late in the quarter to take a 48-43 lead into the second half.

The Flash pulled away from the Red Claws during the third quarter. Costner was the prime factor in a 14-0 run that gave the Flash a 19-point lead, scoring 10 points during the run. His back-to-back three pointers were only half of his twelve points in less than seven minutes of play.

The Flash were unstoppable in the fourth quarter, holding the Red Claws to only 10 points. Utah went into the fourth quarter with a 12-point lead and had no trouble holding onto the lead for the rest of the game.

Tonight's game eliminated the Red Claws from the NBA D-League Playoffs.

Tony Gaffney had a superb game with 12 points, and dominated the defensive effort with 11 rebounds, seven blocks and six steals. The Flash had six players score double digits. Costner led the game with 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Craig Winder led the Red Claws with 17 points. Stephane Lasme had 10 rebounds.

The Flash return to play the Red Claws on Thursday night at the UCCU Events Center. The Flash only have two home games remaining, and tickets are available for both games by calling (801) 434-HOOP [4667].
