Taylor Homers, River Cats Split Doubleheader

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Michael Taylor knocked in his 17th home run to lead the River Cats to a 4-1 win, splitting a doubleheader with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Friday night at Security Service Field.

In the first game, Hiro Nakajima's single gave Sacramento its only lead of the game at 3-2. Colorado Springs' Hernan Iribarren singled in the bottom of the seventh, however, giving the Sky Sox the 5-4 win.

River Cat's starter Arnold Leon struck out three while giving up three runs off eight hits in five innings of work, while reliever Pedro Figueroa was tagged with the blown save.

Taylor finished 3-for-6 on the day with three RBI, three walks, a run scored and a double. Daric Barton and Shane Peterson ended the day 3-for-8 and 3-for-7, respectively, both with a run scored. Nakajima finished the first game 2-for-, with a double and an RBI.

In the second game, Fernando Nieve, Paul Smyth, Hideki Okajima, Kyler Newby, and Brian Gordon combined for nine strikeouts and one unearned run in the 4-1 win. Newby got his second win of the season, while Gordon tied the franchise record for saves with 20.

Lefty Andrew Werner (11-13, 5.98 ERA) is on the mound against the Sky Sox right-hander Sean Gallagher (1-2, 4.55 ERA) at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday at Principal Park.

The River Cats return home on Monday, Aug. 26 for a four-game set against the Fresno Grizzlies for their final home games of the regular season.
