Mattison Homers Twice in Zephyrs' Win

PAPILLION, NE - Kevin Mattison drilled a pair of home runs as the New Orleans Zephyrs won for the sixth time in their last eight games defeating the Omaha Storm Chasers 8-4 at Werner Park.

Mattison led the game off with a solo home run to left. It was the second time this season a Zephyr opened the game with a home run. Gorkys Hernandez drilled a homer on July 8th against Iowa.

The Chasers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. Mattison gave the Z's the lead in the second inning with a two run shot to right field and the Z's grabbed a 3-2 lead. The multi-home run night for Mattison is the first of his career.

The Zephyrs tied a season high with six doubles in the contest. New Orleans put three doubles together in the fifth inning to score a pair of runs and extend the lead to 6-2.

Omaha fought back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Zach Phillips rescued the Zephyrs bullpen inducing a double-play to get out of the jam. The Z's added a pair in the eighth inning to make it 8-4.

Mattison led the club with 3 RBI and Jake Smolinski had three hits and two doubles.

Elih Villanueva earned the win working six plus innings allowed four runs on seven hits. Felipe Paulino allowed six runs on nine hits and took the defeat. Phillips worked the final two and two third innings to earn his first save.

The Z's improved to 67-67 on the season. The Chasers maintain a two game lead on Memphis in the North Division for first place with a 66-68 record.
