Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced Friday that catcher Eli Whiteside and infielder Greg Miclat have been activated from the 7-day disabled list. In corresponding moves, outfielder Jared Hoying has been placed on the 7-day DL, while catcher Zach Zaneski has been transferred to Double-A Frisco.
Whiteside was placed on the DL for the second time this season on August 14. The backstop was batting .175 (35-200) with five home runs and 22 RBI prior to his second stint on the shelf. Just two days prior to being placed on the DL, Whiteside tied his season-high with three hits, going 3-for-4 including a double, home run and two runs scored against Tacoma. Whiteside was placed on the disabled list for the first time on July 24 before being activated on July 31.
Miclat had been disabled since July 30 and has been activated from his first stint on the DL this season. He had played 74 games with the Express, batting .245 with 11 doubles, 26 RBI and 10 stolen bases before being sidelined. The switch-hitting infielder made a short stint with Double-A Frisco, playing five games for the RoughRiders July 10-14.
Hoying will see his first action on the disabled list after leaving Wednesday's game in the ninth inning. In 53 games with the Express this season, Hoying was hitting .266 (50-188) with eight home runs and 24 RBI including hitting safely in four of his last six games. His last home run came on August 13 against Tacoma in the third inning. Hoying currently leads the team with five triples on the season.
Zaneski joined the Express on August 14 and played six games in an E-Train uniform. In his first action at the Triple-A level, Zaneski batted .158 (3-19) with a home run and four RBI. His first Triple-A homer came in his last game with the Express on August 21. Over his last two games with Round Rock, the backstop went 2-for-7 with a home run and three RBI.
With these moves, the current Express roster sits at 25 active with two on the disabled list and two major league rehabs.
