Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Isotopes (69-64) jumped out to a big lead and did not look back as Red Patterson shut Nashville (51-82) down over the first six innings in a 9-5 win. Eliezer Alfonzo (2-for-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) and Justin Sellers (2-for-3, R, 3 RBI, 3B) each collected two hits and drove in three runs.
Red Patterson (7-4, 3.15) was masterful tossing six scoreless innings, earning the win. The righty allowed just three hits and did not surrender a base knock until there were two outs in the fifth inning. He walked three and struck out six. Patterson has gone six innings deep in back-to-back starts.
Blake Johnson entered in the seventh and was touched up for four runs on five hits over two-thirds of an inning. Kelvin De La Cruz came in with runners on second and third and struck out Hunter Morris retiring the side. The southpaw finished the game going two innings and a third giving up one run. He struck out the side in the ninth, earning his seventh save of the year.
The Isotopes batted around in the second, putting six runs on the board. They loaded the bases before recording an out on two singles and a hit batsman. Sellers then cleared the bases on his third triple of the season staking Albuquerque to a 3-0 advantage. The third baseman matched Chili Buss with the most three-RBI games on the season with six.
Dee Gordon and Scott Van Slyke added RBI base knocks to the second-inning scoring. Van Slyke drove in two on his 15th double of the season.
Nashville threatened Albuquerque's big lead in the seventh off Blake Johnson. Blake Davis drove two in on a triple preceding Kentrail Davis' solo shot to left. The Sounds cut the deficit to 6-4 in the frame.
Alfonzo put the exclamation point on the game crushing a three-run homer to centerfield improving Albuquerque's lead to 9-4 in the seventh inning. It was his first long ball with the Isotopes.
Zach Kroenke (5-15, 4.67) suffered the loss for Nashville allowing six runs over five and a third.
Albuquerque and Nashville face off again tomorrow, August 23 for game three of their five-game series. Angel Castro (8-4, 3.54) will get the nod for the Isotopes against the RedHawks' Alfredo Figaro (5-14, 4.41). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM MDT and can be heard on 610 AM "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
