
Rainiers Fall To Padres, 9-6

TUCSON, Ariz. - An eight-run inning spoiled the Tacoma Rainiers early lead in a 9-6 loss to the Tucson Padres at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.
Tacoma held a 5-0 advantage before the Padres pulled ahead for good with eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tucson reduced the Rainiers lead to 5-2 after ground outs hit by Chris Robinson and Dan Robertson each drove in a run.
Jonathan Galvez, Mike Wilson and Gregorio Petit hit RBI singles in consecutive at-bats with two outs to tie the score at 5-5. Ben Francisco drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run triple and Dean Anna added an additional insurance run with a sac fly that plated Robinson.
Tacoma originally took a 4-0 lead beginning in the third inning. Abraham Almonte and Carlos Peguero each hit one-out RBI doubles that gave the Rainiers a two-run edge. Jesus Sucre upped Tacoma's lead to 3-0 with an RBI single and Nate Tenbrink drove in another run with a sac fly.
Peguero increased the Rainiers lead to 5-0 after delivering another one-out RBI single in the top of the fifth.
The outfielder Almonte fronted a Rainiers lineup that combined to collect 10 hits after going 2-for-5 with two RBI, including a solo home run in the seventh. Peguero and second baseman Ty Kelly also turned in two hits each.
Starter James Paxton was dealt the loss after allowing all eight of the Padres runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings. The left-hander walked four and struck out one.
The Rainiers (70-63) play the third game of a four-game series at Tucson (70-63) tomorrow, August 23. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (6-6, 4.82) is slated to start for Tacoma against Padres right-hander Matt Andriese (1-5, 4.53). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
