Tanis Delivers Three Run Double in Ninth to Lead Freedom to Win

Crestwood,IL-The Florence Freedom(16-13) won a back and forth game Wednesday night as they defeated the Windy City ThunderBolts(11-19) 11-9.

With the Freedom trailing 9-8 in the ninth, they loaded the bases with one out. Jacob Tanis cleared the bases with a three run double which proved to be the difference in the game.

The Freedom erased a 5-2 deficit in the fifth thanks to a five run inning. Jim Jacquot was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded which forced in a run. Gary Owens then had a two run double to tie the game at 5-5. Jacquot also scored on a wild pitch and Junior Arrojo recorded an infield RBI single to take a 7-5 lead.

The ThunderBolts took the lead back with a four run seventh. C.J. Gillman scored on a sacrifice bunt by Nate Pittman as pitcher Steve Matre's throwing error allowed Pittman to score. Mike Torres then reached on an error by the shortstop Arrojo and Jeff Harkensee was hit by a pitch. Ryan Soares then drove home all three runs with a bases clearing double to give them a 9-7 lead.

There were six lead changes in the game as Brandon Mathes(1-4) collected the win out of the bullpen. He pitched the final two innings as Jorge Marban collected his sixth save.

Owens finished 3-5 with 3 RBI as Pablo Bermudez chipped in with a pair of RBI singles.

The Freedom and ThunderBolts will play the rubber match of their three game series Thursday night. RHP Michael Oros(2-0, 1.11 ERA) starts for the Freedom while LHP Matt Wickswat(2-3, 5.75) goes for Windy City.
