Wild Things Fall in Engagement 5-3
June 20, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
Not only was it a special night for the future bride and groom but a memorable outing for starter Shawn Smith . Even though he was tagged with his second loss of the season he pitched quite well on the diamond. Smith, who held a 3-1 record before the 7:05 first pitch tonight, threw a solid seven innings, racked up six strikeouts and allowed four runs on six hits before he was relieved by Washington pitcher Zach Fleshman.
In the bottom of the first inning, Stewart Ijames hit a solo shot that soared over the 405' mark in center field.
But, in the second, Sean Gusrang hit his own solo homerun that knotted the game at one. With bases loaded, Vargas smashed a two-run double to put the Beach Bums ahead by two.
The Things' quickly responded in the bottom of the second with a pair of their own to even the score at three. Kalamar had a clutch 2-out RBI single, scoring CJ Beatty and Nunziato hit the second solo homerun on the night for the club, sending one deep to left.
In the third, TC responded with a run, which proved to be the winning run on the night, when Zach Komentari collected an RBI single to score Carlos Testa.
Washington threatened in the bottom of the eighth with bases loaded but it would be Traverse City who added the insurance run in the top of the ninth to steal a tight match against Washington.
The Wild Things play host to the River City Rascals Friday at 7:05 p.m. It is Prom Night at the Ballpark and all fans are encouraged to dust off their old prom attire and come out to see baseball and enjoy a night down memory lane. Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling 724-250-9555 or stopping at the CONSOL ENERGY Box Office.
