June 20, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters are excited to announce that first baseman Andrew Clark had his contract purchased by the New York Yankees this morning and will be reporting to Class AA Trenton. Clark is only one of a handful of Frontier League players to go directly to the AA level.
With Clark's signing, the Evansville Otters have promoted over 50 former players to affiliated baseball.
Clark had an incredible start to the season, leading the Frontier League in batting average (.421), on-base percentage (.536), and slugging percentage (.816). He is second in the league with seven home runs and fourth with 24 runs batted in.
"It would have been nice to have AC a little longer, but it is great to see him get the opportunity to return to organization baseball," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "He exemplifies what is great about the Frontier League. We wish him the best of luck with his baseball career."
The Indianapolis native attended New Palestine High School where he was named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year. Clark excelled at Louisville, being named the Big East Tournament MVP during his senior season.
He was drafted in the 13th round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft by the Texas Rangers. He played three seasons in the Rangers organization where he was named as a Baseball America Low A Class All-Star with the Hickory Crawdads (.313, 12 HR, 60 RBIs).
"I am very happy the New York Yankees organization has given me an opportunity to chase my dream once again," said Clark. "I'm very thankful for the opportunity I got to be a part of the Otters. It was great to meet the coaches and the players. They are great guys and I wish them all the best of luck, not just in baseball but in life."
The Evansville Otters will play the Joliet Slammers on Thursday night at Historic Bosse Field, looking for their ninth straight series win. It is Rockport Lincoln Pioneer Village Night, Swat Pest Night, and Thirsty Thursday! Abraham Lincoln will be attendance for the game, and fans can enjoy drink specials of $2 drafts for 16 ounces! There is also a postgame fireworks extravaganza! The start time for the game is 6:35 pm CDT.
