Aviators Lose at River City, 4-1

O'FALLON, Mo.. - The Rockford Aviators (6-23), presented by Pearson, gave up a three-run home run to Phil Wunderlich in the first inning and lost to the River City Rascals (12-17) by a score of 4-1 Thursday night.

River City added a run in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI double from Jake Atwell to go up 4-0 after six innings.

Rascals' starter Craig Goodman was outstanding in his third outing of the year. The right-hander went 6+ innings and allowed one run on two hits, struck out seven and walked three. Goodman retired the first eleven batters he faced and didn't allow a hit until the sixth. Goodman got the win, his first as a professional.

Rockford got its only run in the seventh when Kenny Bryan hit an RBI double to plate Matt Greener, who led the inning off with a walk.

The Aviators left six runners in scoring position in the fifth though eighth innings. Rockford did field the ball very well, turning four double-plays in the game.

Rockford starter Nick Anderson went 5.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits, struck out three and walked four on his way to taking his third loss of the season. The right-hander's record now stands at 1-3.

Rockford will start a three-game series at Windy City tomorrow, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, Ill.
