Tacos defeat Chihuahuas 7-1 in Tuesday matinee

The Fresno Tacos wrapped up their four-game series versus the El Paso Chihuahuas Tuesday morning with a 7-1 victory.

The Tacos scored first in the bottom of the third when Colin Moran (3-for-5) singled, followed by a Danny Worth (2-for-3) two-run home run to left. Worth's eighth homer of the season gave Fresno a 2-0 lead.

Fresno extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Moran singled to center, scoring Eury Perez (1-for-2). After four innings, the Tacos led 3-0.

Jon Singleton (1-for-3) added to the Tacos lead in the bottom of the fifth with a line drive two-run home run to right. His 14th homer knocked Chihuahuas' starter Frank Garces (1-1) out of the game. Garces picked up the loss after he threw four innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (all earned), walking six and striking out two. Fresno led 5-0 through five innings.

The Chihuahuas scored in the top of the sixth when Jason Hagerty grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Hunter Renfroe to score. El Paso trailed 5-1.

Tacos' starter Mike Hauschild (5-6) picked up the win after he tossed five innings, allowing one run (unearned), on four hits, four walks and striking out a pair.

Fresno pushed another run across in the bottom of the sixth after a Worth triple and a sacrifice-fly to center by Preston Tucker (1-for-2), scoring him. Tacos led 6-1 after six innings.

Tucker added his second RBI sacrifice-fly in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Nolan Fontana. The Tacos last run of the day gave them a 7-1 lead. The score would remain the same after Jandel Gustave closed out the ninth, giving Fresno the win.

The Tacos/Grizzlies win improved them to 5-9 in series finales on the season and 2-4 when played in the day. Fresno will head into a scheduled off-day Wednesday before starting a four-game series versus the Salt Lake Bees (affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels) Thursday night. The 7:05 PT first pitch at Chukchansi Park will square-off Tacos/Grizzlies LHP Tommy Shirley (3-4, 4.19) and Bees LHP Nate Smith (4-3, 4.42).
