Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox closed their series with the New Orleans Zephyrs with an 11-2 loss on Tuesday afternoon in front of 1,851 at Zephyr Field.

In a similar fashion to Monday's game, both pitching staffs were strong to start the game. Unlike Monday, the game's first run didn't take long.

In the bottom of the first, Elliot Soto doubled and scored on a single from Destin Hood to give the Zephyrs the early 1-0 lead against Sky Sox starter Brent Suter (1-3, 4.05).

After the rough first, Suter settled down and didn't allow a run for the rest of his start. In the fourth and fifth innings, Suter got some help from his defense as double plays ended both of those innings to get Suter through five. The Sky Sox southpaw pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. Suter suffered his third loss of the season in the game.

Zephyrs starter Jose Urena (1-1, 4.97) allowed just one hit, a Will Middlebrooks single in the second, in two and two thirds innings in his scoreless start. Greg Nappo (3-3, 5.18) came in for New Orleans and pitched well out of the bullpen. In four and a third innings pitched, he allowed two earned runs on one hit to earn his third victory of the season.

After Michael Kirkman got the first out in the sixth for the Sky Sox, the Zephyrs scratched out an unearned run when Hood's single off Austin Ross scored Robert Andino with the second New Orleans run. Soto later scored on a fielder's choice ground ball then Isaac Galloway increased the lead to five with a single that scored a pair of runs. Adrian Nieto scored another pair of runs with a double and the score was 7-0 New Orleans after six innings.

The Sky Sox got on the board in the seventh as Will Middlebrooks blasted a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, to cut the New Orleans lead to 7-2 off Nappo.

The Zephyrs added a run off Drew Gagnon in the seventh, and three more scored on a home run from Nieto off Ariel Pena in the eighth.

Jo-Jo Reyes pitched the final two innings to give the Zephyrs the win.

After a day off, the Sky Sox head to Memphis for a four game series beginning on Thursday night. Tyler Cravy (1-1, 3.92) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Sky Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 5:38 p.m. MDT at AutoZone Park.
