Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Salt Lake Bees handed the Reno Aces a narrow 6-5 loss on Monday night at Greater Nevada Field. The Bees snapped a five-game losing streak with the win and forced Reno to go for the series victory against former San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum tomorrow.
The back-and-forth affair began with the visitors scoring four runs off Aces starter Kyle Drabek (@kyledrabek4) in the top of the first. Todd Cunningham singled and Sherman Johnson walked on four pitches, setting up a two-run triple by Kaleb Cowart. Ji-Man Choi then drove in Cowart with a sacrifice fly to left. One out later, Kyle Kubitza tripled and later scored on a two-out single by Ryan Jackson.
The Aces (29-28) clawed back against Bees starter Kyle Kendrick with single runs in the first two frames. Peter O'Brien belted his Minor League-leading 17th home run with two outs in the first, and a run-scoring groundout by Carlos Rivero (@Carlos_Rivero3) plated Zach Borenstein - who doubled - in the second.
Consecutive doubles by Choi and Erik Kratz gave the Bees (27-29) another three-run lead in the third, but Kyle Jensen played long ball in the bottom half with a three-run shot to right, knotting the game at five.
The Bees grabbed the lead for good in the fifth when Kubitza scored Cowart who opened the inning with a double.
Reno totaled one hit apiece in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings, with the latter two chances resulting in the tying run stranded at third base. Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) tripled with one out in the eighth but was left at third on a lineout and strikeout. Jack Reinheimer (@Reinheimer_08) singled off Lucas Luetge in the ninth, and O'Brien then grounded out to third, moving Reinheimer to second. After a wild pitch moved Reinheimer to third, Socrates Brito (@SocratesBrito) flied out to left for the final out.
Drabek (3-4) suffered the loss after allowing six earned runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts over five innings. Kendrick (4-2) picked up the win with an eight-inning performance, despite allowing five earned runs on 12 hits. Luetge worked a scoreless ninth for his second save, both coming against Reno.
O'Brien finished with three hits, pushing his hit total to 15 in 32 at-bats on the current homestand.
The Aces conclude their eight-game homestand with the finale of a four-game set against the Bees on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 11:35 a.m. PT. Reno will send right-hander Braden Shipley (3-3, 3.25) to the bump, while Lincecum (0-1, 5.40) will toe the rubber for Salt Lake.
