
T-Birds Shoot Down Red Deer

Seattle, November 7, 2008 - The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Red Deer Rebels 5-2 Friday night in front of 4,327 at KeyArena.
The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at 1:30 of the first period on a goal by Devon LeBlanc. Lindsay Nielsen got to a loose puck just to the left of the goal and centered the puck to Greg Scott on top of the crease. Scott backhanded the puck to LeBlanc at the right post. LeBlanc beat Red Deer goalie Morgan Clark low for his fifth goal of the year.
Cass Mappin tied the game Red Deer at 3:06 of the first. Carter Smith and Joel Kot had the assists. Red Deer (6-11-0-5) went ahead 2-1 at 3:46 of the first on a goal by Landon Ferraro. Cullen Morin had the only assist on the goal.
Seattle (6-10-1-1) tied the game 2-2 at 4:57 of the first. Stefan Warg cleared a puck from the Seattle zone on the right boards. It looked like an icing would be called but Charles Wells chased down the puck and got to it just before the goal line. Wells centered the puck to Brenden Silvester charging down the high slot. Silvester one-timed Wells pass past Clark high over the glove.
Seattle outshot Red Deer 11-5 in the first period.
The T-Birds went ahead 3-2 at 7:14 of the second period on a goal by Jonathan Parker. O'Brien sent the puck from center ice down the right boards. Prab Rai got to the puck and used his backhand to throw it towards the slot. The puck rebounded off a Red Deer defenseman's leg to the slot where Parker was stationed. Parker backhanded the puck over Clark's blocker for his third goal of the year. With the assist O'Brien increased his point streak to 12 games.
The T-Birds outshot the Rebels 13-7 in the second period and led 24-12 in total shots after two periods.
Seattle went in front by two goals at 8:07 of the third period on Luke Lockhart's first WHL goal. Lockhart attempted a wraparound at the left post but Clark made the save. Lockhart kept after the puck and was able to sneak it over Clark's pads. Colin Haas and Chance Lund had assists on the goal.
Rai added an unassisted empty-net goal at 18:44 of the third for the final Seattle score.
Red Deer outshot Seattle 8-4 in third period. Seattle finished with a 28-20 advantage in total shots.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 18 saves on 20 shots and his record is now 4-6-1-1.
Clark stopped 23 of 27 shots and his record is now 3- 5-0-2.
The T-Birds are in Chilliwack to face the Bruins on Saturday, November 8, at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of a seven-game road trip. The T-Birds will travel to the East Division of the Eastern Conference.
