Everett Silvertips News Release

Prince Albert, SK - The Everett Silvertips couldn't hold on to a three goal lead going into the 3rd period Saturday night giving up a tough 4-3 overtime loss. Kent Simpson got the start tonight and had 36 saves in the overtime loss. Tyler Maxwell had a strong night giving his team a chance to win scoring two goals and adding an assist. Everett is now 0-3 in the extra period this season, despite being 2-0 in shootouts. This brings the ‘Tips record to 9-7-3-0 with 21 points in 19 games played standing four points behind second place Spokane Chiefs in the U.S. Division. The Silvertips are now 5-3-2-0 in their last 10 games. Everett now has two days off before heading to Brandon, Manitoba to play the Wheat Kings Tuesday afternoon for the fourth game of their six game Eastern Conference trip.

Things looked quite bright for Everett in the first period thanks to the help of Tyler Maxwell. Maxwell would get Everett on the board right away at 3:47 of the first after an assist from Byron Froese. Almost three minutes later Maxwell put home his fifth goal of the season and would give Everett their first power play goal of this Eastern Conference road trip. Froese and Kellan Tochkin would provide the assists on the power play giving Everett an early two goal lead. The Silvertips continued to dominate the first period adding their third goal of the night scored by Defenseman Paul Van de Velde bringing Everett a comfortable lead going into the second period.

After much of a back and forth second period the ‘Tips looked to be in control of the game outshooting Prince Albert 25 to 19 and holding onto a three goal lead with 20 minutes of regulation hockey to play. Down but not out the Raiders slowly began to creep back into the game. Just 13 seconds into the third period Ryan McDonald of the Prince Albert Raiders put home his 11th goal of the year making the game 3-1. Prince Albert starting capitalizing on the scoring chances they were receiving. Justin Bernhardt scored the Raiders second goal after beating Kent Simpson high glove side on a 2 on1 at 6:44 of the 3rd period.

Grasping onto a one goal lead, the Everett Silvertips were pushing for the time to run out to get out of Prince Albert with two points, but the raiders pushed their way back into the game. Dustin Cameron tied the game at 16:20 after beating Simpson on a screen bringing the score to 3-3 at the end of regulation. Everett, despite their best efforts, couldn't hold off Prince Albert's momentum any longer and gave up the game winning goal to Dustin Cameron off the face off at 3:48 of overtime.
