Chilliwack Bruins News Release

The Chilliwack Bruins scored four first period goals en route to a 6-2 home-ice win over the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night. The win snapped the Bruins nine game losing streak.

Ryan Howse got the Bruins off to a solid start just a minute and a half into this one, scoring his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Jadon Potter started the play, feeding Howse with a pass out of the left corner. The Prince George native did the rest, beating Edmonton netminder Torrie Jung with a backhand shot.

The Oil Kings drew even six minutes later on a goal by Tomas Vincour. Vincour snared a pass from linemate Jeff Lee, split the Bruins defense and beat Chilliwack netminder Mark Friesen glove side for his ninth of the season.

The Bruins took three minutes to answer on another goal by red-hot Ryan Howse. Again, Potter started the play, forcing a turnover in the offensive zone. Potter darted down low and found Howse all alone in front. He beat Jung easily to restore Chilliwack's one goal lead.

David Robinson scored his fourth of the season at 12:04 and Dylen McKinlay tipped in an Alexander Grill-Donovan point shot at 14:42 to send the Bruins to the break up by three.

McKinlay's goal was his first in the Western Hockey League.

Just one minute and eight seconds into the middle frame, an off-balance Potter shot from the top of the right faceoff circle bounced off the boards behind the Edmonton net, right onto the stick of Randy McNaught, who stuffed it short side on the Oil Kings keeper.

That was it for Jung, who was replaced by rookie Cam Lanigan.

Just 43 seconds after the goalie switch, Edmonton netted their second of the game, with Vincour again doing the damage. The Czech almost had another moments later, clanging a shot off the cross-bar on a penalty shot.

Against the run of the play, Howse notched his third of the game. In true sniper fashion, he sidestepped a check at the blueline, stormed down the right wing and lasered a wrist shot past Lanigan from 20 feet out.

Though the Oil Kings out-shot Chilliwack 10-6 in the middle frame, the Bruins carried a 6-2 lead into the third.

There was no scoring in the final period.

For his efforts defending the Chilliwack net, Friesen earned second star honours. Potter was the third star and Howse was an obvious choice as the first star.

With the win, the Bruins improved to 6-11-1-1 on the season, heading into another home-ice matchup Saturday night against the Seattle Thunderbirds (7 p.m. start).
